Not only did I have the pleasure of knowing Colonel Bill Hendrix, but also many of his contemporaries who later became known as the Toys for Tots Founders - the so-called "Hollywood Marines." Brig. General Len Frieburg, and Colonel Herb Schlosberg and his remarkable late wife, Joyce.

It is impossible to imagine that we now celebrate Toys for Tots during its 62nd year ! I was a recipient of one of the early toys and could only reciprocate by becoming a Marine and later in charge of several segments of the Toys for Tots program headquartered at the Los Angeles Public Affairs Office. Our host during the 1977 campaign was actor Earl Holliman - a more gracious and generous person we could not have asked for.

To Bill, and Herb and the late General Frieburg, thanks and Semper Fidelis.
